BTS 06 – Music Video

Another great entry to our Behind the Scenes competition by Alec – www.alecjhenderson.com

Description:

I chose this clip because of the degree of difficulty it was to attain and the end result. The wind was blowing 20-30mph on the day of the shoot. I was asked to fly between two palm trees while maintaining a straight line past the actor. The first three takes I kept slowing down, but on the fourth take, I got it. I shot this for a music video for the Muse for their song called, “Reapers.” The location was at an abandoned water park just outside of Los Angeles. When the Director Tom Kirk was explaining his vision to me, he described a dystopian future where drones were used to spy and hunt people down. I suggested the waterpark at Lake Dolores having shot a music video there earlier that year. I knew he wanted footage of the drone right on the tail of his actor who probably ran about twenty miles that day. I looked at the weather report and saw that it was going to get as hot as one hundred degrees which is why we started flying at sunrise. I did not however look at the wind report. I know, rookie mistake. We got all the shots Mr. Kirk wanted and more. Our drones got a little banged up, but nothing we couldn’t repair. We used two Inspire 1’s and one Phantom 2 w/ H4-3D Gimbal and a GoPro Hero 4 Black mounted to it.

It was a privilege and an honor to be a part of a video that has been watched eleven million times on youtube.
